Panormos village
Panormos is located about an hours bus ride westwards from Heraklion and around 25 km from Rethymnon. It is on the main highway so is easily reached by car or public transport. Simply head for Rethymnon and you can't go wrong.
With its quiet unspoiled streets and bags of cretan character, Panormos is a wonderfully relaxing and peaceful place to stay.
It has just enough shops and tavernas so you've got a decent enough selection without being overly commercialised. The bars are friendly without being full of lager-louts and the beaches uncrowded.
